2. Ankur — Program for Food Sustainability

Cultivating a kitchen garden in an environmentally friendly way not only offers nutritious food at low cost but also has numerous ecological and financial benefits.

Ankur, an initiative of Shrunkhala, involves developing kitchen gardens at the premises of social organisations like hospice, rehabilitation centers, orphanages etc. By producing the required fruits and vegetables while using kitchen waste for composting, this program aims to reduce food cost, fill up nutritional gaps and also protect the environment – all of which helps the organisations on their way towards food sustainability.

3. Zero Waste — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Refusing to buy items that are not needed, reusing items more than once and disposing the items that are no longer in use at appropriate recycling centers not only help cut down the amount of waste which is thrown away but also acts to conserve natural resources, landfill space and energy- which eventually contribute towards a healthier planet.

Shrunkhala’s zero-waste program is a citizen participation initiative to create awareness about waste segregation, waste composting and dry waste collection.

The aim of this program is to make cities clean and green by developing the thought process of segregation, composting, reusing and recycling of waste at home level i.e., waste management at source.
